I grew up on the west coast so Washington dc will always be the "other" washington for me.
a few notes: the travlers at the hosteling international are some of the most focused and intense I've seen. Everyone has a laptop or a smartphone glued to their hands and every one is in "work" travel mode - intense planning, sorting photos, writing blogs - whatever they're doing they're wispering silently amonst themselves. This might have to do with the lack of alcohol in the establishment - no bar here and alcool is banned.
most moving and personally meaningful monument is the vietnam veterans monument
best museum so far is the nations hanger - the smithsonian's udvar-hazay center - a part of the national aerospace museum NOT the one on the mall but beside dulles international
I can't really say this because its the only museum i've been to . . .
also dc has the most polite americans i've ever met.
in typical canadian fashion I tend to greet and joke with random people on the street - and this is the first time in the US when people reply in kind politely and nicely.
